Changing stream from "native" to derived...457

I believe I want to change my streams a bit to reduce I/O data usage. I've already developed somewhat of a compressed format for sending stream data--at least i's more condensed. The downside is that I need derived streams to "extract" the data that's passed via the condensed form. Also, I don't want to lose any historical stream data for any of the streams currently in use. What I'm wondering is if I can take my existing stream(s), change it to a derived stream starting with a current date and time (when I shut off the old feed) and then start feeding new data via the derivation. I'm assuming this will work based upon the date-time aspect of the derivation definition. However, I need to confirm my assumption before I mess up any historical data. |
